Christ Lutheran Church 300 Hillside Drive South New Hyde Park, NY Teacher: Mary Cheriyan Our Kids Klub Christmas program was held on December 16, 2008. The kids did a great job. They not only acted and sang in this years rendition of the story of Jesus birth, they also wrote the script! Fellowship for parents preceded the program and a small party for all followed.  Our Christian after school program which started with eight students five years ago, now has thirty children beginning each Fall. They range in age from pre-school to fifth grade. At this point we have alumni returning to be volunteers. We keep the class size small so we know children individually. Rev. Albert Triolo was present and involved with all the children. The students represent a wide range of ethnic backgrounds exactly the population of New Hyde Park. A major goal of the church, when the program was started, was to have a diverse group of children who would meet and get to know new neighbors. Clearly that goal has been reached. The stories the children hear come from the Old and New Testament. They sing and do craft projects about the stories, and they talk about how these stories help them understand those they live and play with. One of the highlights of the Kids Klub is the annual Christmas program which creates a lot of excitement at Christ Church in the fall. The children learn that they can be " little disciples" through their giving of themselves in two ways. One is writing to and visiting special neighbors: those who are homebound. They learn why people live alone and how even little children can bring joy to these people's lives. Secondly, the children bring an offering to make a difference in people's lives. Their money goes to Heifer International. Each gift of an animal helps a family get out of poverty. Over the years, the " Kids Klub" members have purchased ducks, bee hives and a pig. In the last couple of years, they have challenged themselves to do better. Last year they bought a llama and this year a water buffalo. Registration for Tuesday's Kids Klub is a $15 fee per child payable in September and in January. Please call the church at (516) 746- 4889 to set up an appointment.
